Position size calculator
Work out how many lots to trade so that a stop-loss hit costs exactly the amount you chose to risk.
How it works
Lots = (balance × risk %) ÷ (stop-loss pips × pip value). For example, $100,000 × 1% = $1,000 at risk. With a 20-pip stop and $10 per pip per lot, that is 5.00 lots.
Tips
- Pip value is about $10 per lot on USD-quoted pairs and differs on others, JPY pairs and metals included.
- Our rules cap risk at 3% per trade. Most traders risk well under 1%.
- For other pairs try the Babypips calculator.
